Flash Player 10 came out on Wednesday (10/15/08). End users are finding that many sites need to update their Flash Player detection to avoid their users getting ‘install Flash Player’ messages. So we need to spread the word about getting devs to update their detection schemes…
Our official line as of this week is that folks should be using SWFObject for all their Flash Player detection:
http://code.google.com/p/swfobject/
We’ve been blogging about it and trying to prepare folks for it, but we still have some work to do on this point. Technotes will be updated this week to highlight SWFObject over the FPDetection Kit, for example.

So, it’ll take awhile for the world to get their detection fixed, unfortunately. But it’ll improve as we spread the word.

[…] First, the Adobe Flash Support rep said that my Flash Version detection was outdated and referred me to this page: Blog Archive Flash Player 10 Detection out in the world? […]
I am having this issue using Adobe Flex 3, IE7, and Flash 10. The AC_OETags.js file detectsFlashVer function returns ‘WIN 2,0,0,11′ when used in IE7, but Firefox returns ‘10.0.12′ and runs my Flex program fine. If I edit the AC_OETags.js to return a True value if it encounters WIN 2,0,0,11, IE7 is fooled, and runs the application fine. What is the proper fix for this issue?
Guys, I don’t do support cases on my blog. I just use it to relay issues and try to spread the information.
Ron, you should open a flex dev support case. They’ve probably already dealt with this (I don’t do much on the flex side myself…)
Help! person… I’d recommend you post your issue to the adobe Flash Player forum with your case number. I can get you more guidance there.
nQAvKF Thanks for good post
